A LEGACY OF WARMTH
Originally created over one thousand years ago by the nomads of the Great Steppe, Valenkis became the traditional footwear of Tsars and peasants alike because of their unmatched warmth and comfort during Russia’s frigid winters. Because of the natural properties of the wool, the boots have been said to relieve muscle and rheumatic pain and improve blood circulation. Peter the Great even wore his to cure hangovers.
Of course, with centuries of toasty toes and healing comfort to live up to, we had to make sure our design was as good as the original. So we had polar explorers Mike Horn, Steve Ravusin and Alban Michon test them in extreme conditions including temperatures down to -40 degrees — and they passed with distinction worthy of their extraordinary heritage.
Natural WoolInspired by the traditional Valenki, these boots have a one piece, hand-molded felted wool bottom, woven wool felt upper and a Merino lining for the perfect mix of coziness, strength and performance. Thanks to wool’s natural crimp, which traps warm air and releases moisture that can makes you feel cold, these boots keep toes toasty to -30-degree Celsius and are also water repellent thanks to the lanolin naturally found in wool. |
